Techno Ted
WHO IS TECHNO TED?
You will all be familiar with Traveling Ted from Mrs Greens class last year. Well Techno Ted is Traveling Ted's hipper, cooler cousin! He likes to have fun and explore the world around him using all of the amazing technology we have available.
When you pick up Techno Ted he will have the following items in his bag.
- 1 explorer diary for you to either write/glue or draw your adventures with Techno Ted in.
- 1 packet of coloured pencils
- 1 HB pencil
- 1 sharpener
- 1 eraser
- 1 glue stick
- 1 packet of blank CD's and a USB stick (either can be used if you decide on a video).
Please return all items to school with Techno Ted.
WHAT DO I DO WITH TECHNO TED?
Techno Teds journey will involve him going home for 3 days with every student in our classroom. He (and the rest of our class) want to see what you do with Ted over the 3 days. Feel free to take Techno Ted with you everywhere! The main thing you need to remember is that you need to share your time with Ted with the class using technology such as a digital camera, video camera, computer, printer, scanner etc. Keep reading for some examples.
WHERE DO I FIND IDEAS?
Plan ahead! Start thinking now about how you might use technology to share Techno Teds journey with your classmates. Discuss your ideas with your teacher and parents and see what you have in your house. You might be surprised at how tech savvy your parents are!
Some ideas...
*Create a 'Day in the Life of Techno Ted' photo collage . Using a digital camera take a photo every time something interesting happens to Techno Ted. Print the photos out and arrange this in sequence (the order in which they happened) in the Explorer Diary.
* Film a short video of Techno Ted at your house. Ask your parents to help you to burn it to a DVD or load it onto YouTube. We will watch the videos in class.
* Using a computer type a story about your 3 days with Techno Ted. Print this out and glue in into the Explorer Diary.
WHEN IS IT MY TURN TO TAKE TECHNO TED HOME?
Techno Ted will begin his journey in the second week of Term 1. I will post the roster onto the classroom door in Week 1. Please let me know if there are any problems with your scheduled time e.g. holidays etc.
WHY IS OUR CLASSROOM DOING THIS?
Techno Ted is a fun way to help children to learn to use the technology available in your house. Children love to use technology, it is a wonderful way for them to express themselves and engage in a topic. By choosing the technology they undertake in an activity which supports their learning e.g. visual learners may enjoy taking photos while auditory learners may prefer to record their journey using a microphone. The choices are endless! Please support and assist your child with Techno Ted and feel free to contact me with any concerns or ideas. I will be posting all of the journeys on this website here so we can enjoy them all year.
